Most Seed Sites Aren't Breeders. Here's How to Tell.

A huge share of the "seed banks" advertising online buy bulk seed stock out of Spain, repackage it under a house name, and sell it as their own genetics. It's not illegal, but it's not breeding either — and it's worth knowing the difference before you spend money on a first grow.

Hundreds of SKUs

Real breeding — selecting, crossing, testing, stabilizing a line — takes years per strain. No small team is running that process on 300+ strains at once. A catalog that size is a distribution list, not a breeding program.

The same photos, everywhere

Run a reverse image search on the product photos of most seed sites. You'll frequently find the exact same bud shots on multiple competing "brands" — because they're all sourcing from the same overseas stock house.

No one who's actually grown it

Ask a rebrand seller what a strain actually does across a full cycle — germination rate, phenotype spread, real yield — and you'll usually get catalog copy back, not a grower's answer.

I've bred and grown since 2001. AutoFem.ca runs on in-house genetics plus direct partnerships with breeders in the Okanagan, the Kootenays, and Vancouver Island — people I actually know, whose grow rooms I've actually seen.

Every strain on this page has been grown out and evaluated across multiple rooms before it earned a spot here — not selected off a spec sheet from an overseas supplier. That process is slow, which is exactly why the menu is short.

We're currently focused on two tested autoflower strains. Not because that's all we've got — because we're not trying to be the biggest seed site out there. We're trying to be the right one.
